The association is a Verein under the Swiss Civil Code. Its statutes, adopted by the general assembly on 19 March 2026 and signed in Zug, place it under Art. 60 ff. ZGB and state that it pursues no commercial purpose and seeks no profit. Its purpose, in the same document, is to help the Swiss population use bitcoin through events, education and exchange. It holds no member funds and sells nothing, so it is not a financial service.
It is old by bitcoin standards. The About page says it was founded in late 2013 and calls it the oldest fintech association in Switzerland. The board page, read on 4 October 2026, lists Jan Brzezek as president.
You pay for membership in francs or in bitcoin. The membership page sets the private fee at CHF 21 a year, payable either way. Only people or companies domiciled or registered in Switzerland can become voting members, under article 2 of the statutes, and the statutes exist in German and English with the German text binding.
Most of the activity is local. The events page lists regular meetups in Zurich, Geneva, Luzern, Neuchatel and Basel, held in cafes and free to attend, and says the association has more than 9'000 members. That spread covers both the German and the French-speaking parts of the country.
Who it is for
Newcomers who want to talk to people who already hold bitcoin. The events page describes the city meetups as social evenings that usually have no speaker, which makes them easy to join without preparation.
People who want a say in Swiss bitcoin policy. The membership page offers working groups on policy, education and community projects to private members.
Anyone looking for a job in the Swiss bitcoin industry. The same page lists contact with the association's corporate members as a member benefit. For a bigger gathering, the October calendar on the events page points to the Plan B Forum in Lugano.
Who it is not for
Residents abroad who want a vote. Article 2 of the statutes restricts voting membership to Swiss domicile or seat.
People looking for investment advice, a broker or custody. The association promotes bitcoin as a non-profit; it does not handle your coins or tell you what to buy. For that step, read how to buy bitcoin in Switzerland and the self-custody guide.
Anyone who wants a talk at every meetup. The regional evenings are mainly social; the bigger talks are separate events on the same calendar.
