Swiss angle
BDK comes from the United States. The BDK Foundation page, read on 4 October 2026, says the BDK Foundation is a US 501(c)(6) non-profit organization. BDK is code that programmers build into their own apps; it holds no coins and serves no customers, so it is not a financial service.
A Swiss bank uses it. The BDK adoption list names Seba Bank, now AMINA Bank AG, which the AMINA website describes as a Swiss bank authorized and regulated by the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority. The old seba.swiss address now forwards to that site. That listing shows a regulated bank uses the libraries. It does not mean the bank endorses any wallet built with them.
Beyond that, BDK has no Swiss office and no Swiss price. It is a global developer tool.
Who it is for
Developers building a bitcoin wallet. The BDK home page calls it a suite of software libraries for building secure, feature-rich and cross-platform bitcoin applications. The repository says it is built on the rust-bitcoin and rust-miniscript crates and is licensed under MIT or Apache 2.0, at your choice.
Mobile developers who do not write Rust. The bdk-ffi repository ships Kotlin bindings for Android and Swift bindings for iOS and macOS, and lists separately maintained bindings for Python, Dart and React Native.
Teams who want to know who else ships it. The adoption list names Bitkey, Proton Wallet and mempool.space among the projects built with BDK.
Readers of the technical deep dive chapter who want to see keys, addresses and transactions in working code.
Who it is not for
People looking for a wallet to install. BDK has no app of its own. For a desktop wallet, look at Sparrow or Electrum.
Developers on an old Rust toolchain. The repository says its crates keep a minimum supported Rust version of 1.85.0.
Anyone who wants support with a contract. BDK is open source maintained by a non-profit, and the foundation page describes its mission as promoting the business interests of the Bitcoin software industry, not serving end users.
