BTC Map is a global map, and Switzerland is one of its country pages. It shows places that accept bitcoin and holds no money, so it is not a financial service. The BTC Map web app repository publishes the code under the AGPL-3.0 licence, and the map credits OpenStreetMap for its data. We found no company named on these pages.
The Switzerland statistics page, read on 5 October 2026, showed 753 total locations and 324 recently verified locations, which it gives as 43%. A location counts as recently verified when it carries a survey or check date less than one year old, and the page says its chart data updates once every 24 hours. Expect the numbers to have moved by the time you read this.
The country page on the same day listed recent additions such as Gold Point at Zeughausgasse 20 in Zug and UFC Change Rive at Cours de Rive 4 in Geneva. Its events tab showed the Plan B Forum Lugano on 23 and 24 October 2026 and a Bitcoin Wallis meetup on 6 October 2026. Plan B Lugano has its own listing here.
The country page also writes about tax and regulation. Do not treat a map as a tax source; for tax, use the Swiss Bitcoin tax guide.
Who it is for
People who want to spend bitcoin, not only hold it. Open the map, find a café or a shop near you, and pay. The chapter on using bitcoin in the real world explains what to expect at the till.
Shop owners who already take bitcoin. Once you accept payments with Swiss Bitcoin Pay or BTCPay Server, add your place. The add-location page asks you to drag the map until the pin sits on the business entrance, then confirm.
Meetup goers. The events tab lists dated Bitcoin events, and the Zurich Bitcoin meetup is another place to start.
Mappers. Each place on the country page has a Verify Location link, so you can confirm a shop still takes bitcoin and keep the data fresh for everyone.
Who it is not for
Anyone who needs certainty before a trip. On 5 October 2026, 324 of 753 locations had a check in the last year, according to the statistics page; the rest had none that recent. Call ahead if one shop matters.
People who want reviews or prices. The map tells you where bitcoin is accepted, with address, opening hours and contact details where the community added them; it does not rate the shop.
Anyone looking for a wallet. You need one before you can pay; the self-custody guide helps you choose.
